Formation Phase for Aspirants and Postulants
This phase of formation is designed to help aspirants and postulants discern their vocation, deepen their understanding of Salesian spirituality, and prepare them for the novitiate and eventual profession as Salesian Sisters.
Aspirancy (Discernment Phase)
During aspirancy, aspirants are introduced to the foundational aspects of Salesian spirituality and charism, learning about the life and mission of Don Bosco and Mother Mazzarello. They explore Salesian values, including faith, reason, loving kindness, and joy, and often experience the Ashram, a spiritual retreat focused on inner reflection and simplicity. This phase emphasizes vocational discernment and accompaniment, as well as initial formation in Salesian pedagogy and methodology, helping aspirants assess their calling to Salesian life.
Postulancy (Orientation Phase)
In postulancy, formation becomes more intensive, offering a deeper understanding of Salesian spirituality and the congregation’s mission. Postulants study the Salesian constitution and rules, gain experience in community life, and actively participate in apostolic activities, including a month of practical training. This stage includes human formation, focusing on personal growth and skills development, along with ongoing spiritual direction and accompaniment. Postulants also receive an introduction to the Salesian pedagogical approach and begin preparations for the novitiate.
Key Aspects of Formation
This phase emphasizes spiritual growth and discernment, encouraging aspirants and postulants to deepen their bond with the community and embrace Salesian charism and spirituality. Practical experiences and training are integrated to develop skills for apostolic work, while human and intellectual growth are fostered to support their personal and vocational development. Throughout, accompaniment and guidance are provided to ensure each individual feels supported on their journey toward becoming a Salesian Sister.
